Heaven’s Special Child...

A meeting was held quite far from earth" It's time again for another birth. Said
the angels of the Lord above.
“This special child will need much love Life’s progress will seem very slow
Accomplishments may not show And this child will require much extra care From all the folks down there. Our child may not laugh or run or play Thoughts may seem quite far away In many ways our child will not adapt
And shall be known as ‘Handicapped’
So let us be careful where this child is sent We want
this life to be content .Please
Lord, find parents who Will do this special job for you.
They may not recognize right away The leading
role they’re asked to play. But with the child from above Comes stronger faith and
 richer love And
soon they’ll know the
privilege given In caring for this gift from Heaven. They're precious child so meek and mild is Heaven’s
very special child.

Who Are We ?

 Moose Jaw Families For change
We area  group of community minded Moose Jaw residents gathered together one day to discuss alternative holistic residential homes in their community for intellectually challenged adults. We noted that many young people were presently living in their family home, however parents were aging and what would be the future for these persons in the event their families were not around to support them?
We researched the market place and made a decision on information received that there was a need for a new agency on the "block" to create services for individuals with challenges. Moose Jaw Families for Change Inc. was born in January 2000 and a non-profit agency was created with a board of directors from the community to oversee the development of the project and the operation. Capital funding through government agencies is very minimal and this becomes the responsibility of the agency to provide the “bricks & mortar” and then to negotiate with the government for operational funding.
"Community working together" is the focus of Moose Jaw Families for Change. We are an equal opportunity employer: creating employment in the Moose Jaw community.

Our Goals

  • To establish in the year 2003, our first residential home in the Moose Jaw community at 1319 Duffield St. west .This property  was purchased  by a $20,000.00 interest free loan Moose Jaw Families For change received from C.M.H.C. Under the "Proposed Development Funding Loan ".

  •  To create an alternative community-based day program for individuals that are not able to fit into the regular main stream programming. We have operated for the past four years a wonderful community based summer program in partnership with other agencies in the community .

  • To create when necessary, employment options for individuals who are challenged.

  • To remain focused and positive providing diversity of services for those that we are committed to work for and with.

Our Philosophy
We are an incorporated non profit agency in the city of Moose Jaw and a registered charity.

We believe in the Christian model of human dignity, that all persons have a purpose in life and a need for caring relationships and inclusion in their community.

We believe in working at the grass roots level to create homes and community programming that will ensure a life of dignity and stability for those that we serve.

We believe that this enriched supportive environment will give  persons that are challenged  an opportunity to have control over there lives and input in decisions affecting them

"Moose Jaw Families for Change has adopted the Canadian Centre for
Philanthropy's Ethical Fund raising and Financial Accountability Code by incorporating  these polices in our bylaws"
